Professor Ilochi Okafor, the former Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) in Anambra State, who was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen from his home last Sunday has been released by his abductors. He was kidnapped while leaving his house for a church service.
The Professor of Law, a two-time Attorney General of the old Anambra State and a candidate in the 2011 governorship election in the state, was reportedly dropped off blindfolded in the vicinity of the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Emene, Enugu.
Following the kidnap, the Enugu State Police Command vowed to ensure that the cerebral scholar was returned to his home within the shortest time possible, promising to embark on intensive search without delay.
Sources told SchoolGist that Prof. Okafor regained his freedom after his abductors were able to collect an undisclosed substantial ransom from his family.
