Kebbi state government shuts down seven schools over safety concerns

The Kebbi state government through the National Union of Teachers (NUT) has disclosed that seven boarding schools considered unsafe following the recent abduction of students and teachers of Federal Government College(FGC) Birnin Yauri by bandits has been closed.

In the statement issued by the Chairman of the union, Isah Arzika, today June 21, Arzika said the shut schools are in vulnerable areas of the state believed to be soft targets of bandits. He noted the move was a proactive measure to further prevent the recurrence of FGC, Birnin Yauri’s incident.

On the recent abduction at FGC Birnin Yauri, Arzika said the bandits have contacted parents and families of the abducted students but no ransom has been demanded, adding that two teachers have regained their freedom.
