KASU dismisses lecturer over harassment of female student

A lecturer with the Kaduna State University, (KASU), Geography Department, Dr. Idowu Abbas has been sacked by the university over allegations of sexual harassment of a female student.

The university announced his dismissal from the institution in a statement released by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of the school, Prof. Abdullahi Ashafa, in Kaduna on Friday, January 15.

He was dismissed after the university's disciplinary committee headed by the deputy vice-chancellor, found him guilty of sexually harassing a female student whose project he was supervising. He confessed to having touched and hugged the student from behind against her will when she went to his office to discuss her project.

His appointment was terminated in accordance with Section 8.7 Paragraph (f) of the Administrative and Academic Regulations in Kaduna State University.

Ashafa also announced the promotion of 12 other lecturers of the school.
