The Federal College of Education (Technology), Bichi, chapter of the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), has announced plans to embark on an indefinite strike action following the inability of the school management to address its demands centered on the release of TETFund approved funds, insecurity and poor sanitation, payment of allowances, Lack of internet services, amongst others
The lecturers who announced the commencement of the strike on Wednesday, April 12, said the school, though a tertiary institution, is more of a glorified secondary school due to the alarming rate of insecurity, lawlessness, and lack of equipment and consumables.
The union president, Dr. Hussaini Yahaya Peni, while addressing journalists said it was unfortunate that the union had no option but to embark on the strike due to the management’s inability to implement the resolutions of 28th August 2022 and 10th January 2023 that predicated on issues of quality academic standards and other issues affecting staff welfare.
According to Peni, the union suspended earlier plans to embark on the strike on 23rd August 2022, after it entered a resolution with the school management on 28th August 2022 and 10th January 2023, about quality academic standards and other issues affecting staff welfare. He said the management's inability to implement the resolution is necessitating the industrial action.
