Jonathan Pledges to Provide Support to New Varsities:
President Goodluck Jonathan has pledged to provide more support to the newly established federal universities so as to enable them stand on their footings by being more productive and sustainable.
Speaking when he inspected projects at the Federal University Dutsinma, in Katsina State, President Jonathan said his administration was committed to providing equal educational opportunities to all.
He said it was not easy for any administration to establish nine universities at a time but his government did that because of its determination to widen access to varsity education.
He appealed to host communities of the new universities to remain partners in progress and make their contribution towards the development of education.

Also speaking, Governor Ibrahim Shema expressed satisfaction at the growth “and rapid expansion of the university within short time,” assuring that the state government would sustain its support to the institution.
Earlier in a speech, the vice chancellor of the University, Prof James Ayatse, acknowledged the contribution of both federal and Katsina state government to the successful take-off of the university.
Prof. Ayatse who noted that President Jonathan’s reforms in the education sector would engender development of the nation stressed the need for continued support to the newly established universities.
The VC, however, expressed appreciation with the cordial relationship existing between the varsity and its host community and appealed for sustained cooperation.
Our correspondent reports that the president who visited the university in company of Governor Shema as part of his 2day official visit to Katsina, inspected the senate building, library, ICT complex and water works. (Leadership)
