Indication has emerged that all hope is not lost for 2016 UTME candidates who scored less than 180 in the examination as they can still be offered admission.
This was disclosed by the Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Is-haq Oloyede during the second technical committee meeting held in Owerri Imo state to discuss the ongoing 2016 admission to tertiary institutions.
According to the JAMB Boss, the board has gotten approval from the minister of education and other relevant authorities to reconsider and reduce the cut off marks of some institutions that have admitted all of their candidates that scored up to 180 but still have not met the number they are suppose to admit based on their stipulated admission quota.
He mentioned that many institutions who supported the 180 minimum cut-off marks initially especially newly established ones are finding it difficult to admit candidates and have pleaded with the board to reconsider the 180 cut-off mark.
He added that the board considered their pleas and consulted the relevant authorities and has received the go ahead to implement a flexible cut off mark for such institution which should be subject to meeting other admission pre-requisite.
