The JAMB 2020 policy meeting has come and gone. We have already provided some of the information and details that were disclosed in the meeting. However, there are some other important points directly related to the 2020/2021 admission exercise that we believe all 2020 admission seekers should know.
All candidates for the 2020/2021 admission exercise are advised to go through these points below as it will help them know what is expected of them as well as what is expected of different schools in the admission process.
Important Points From 2020 JAMB Policy Meeting Every Candidate Should Know:
1. All Admissions in all Tertiary institutions in the country MUST be processed by JAMB.
2. JAMB will publish cut-off dates (admission deadlines) of all institutions to guide candidates and general public
3. 1st choice admission will commence first in September while other choices will commence November
4. At the end of the 1st choice period, all candidates not admitted would be pulled out of the institutions’ platform on CAPS & be made available to other willing institutions
5. Any candidate who has chosen an institution as 2nd, 3rd or 4th choice does not need any change of choice or payment to JAMB to be considered for admission during the period of the 2nd choice admission
6. Post-UTME Forms should not be sold more than N2,000
7. Currently, a total of Eight Hundred and Fifty-One [851]Tertiary institutions are in the country
8. Tertiary institutions are pleaded with to accept PASS in Mathematics for Blind Students
9. Students are advised to be flexible in choosing their courses, do not keep applying for a course you are denied admission in previous years, try switching or changing to different courses to increase chances of admission
10. Candidates of Distance Learning, Part-Time, Outreach, Sandwich, etc programmes (not required to take the UTME) but ought to be processed through JAMB just as the DE candidates are processed.
11. Remedial/Pre-degree students must also have a minimum institutional cut-off mark
12. Applicants must upload their O’ Level results on the Board’s portal before the commencement of admission exercise. Candidates waiting for their results will only be considered when they are uploaded on its website
13. After upload of O’ level by a candidate, any admission to be done MUST consider him/her
14. If any institution request for the opening of change of course or institution, the institution MUST consider all the candidates who recently uploaded their results for admission at that time
15. Candidates must meet the approved institutional/Course cut-off marks prescribed for each school which is subject to the respective National Minimum UTME scores to be considered for admission.
16. The total cut-off point for admission will be determined by minimum UTME score/direct entry grade, post UTME (if applicable), grading of Senior School Certificate grades, interview/practical scores(if applicable) and percentage allotted to UTME score range from 50 percent to 100 percent, (if applicable).
17. Once a candidate has been offered admission, such candidate is required to ‘accept’ or ‘reject’ admission before the process is deemed to have been completed
18. For a candidate to be fully admitted and registered as a student of any institution from 2020 admission exercise, he/she must be recommended by the institution for admission, admitted and approved by JAMB, accept the admission offer online on JAMB’s website at no cost, print both result slip and admission letter, and present acceptable credentials and go through any other screening required.
19. Before a candidate can be moved or transferred to another course/programme, there would be transfer alert (notification from CAPS) to the candidate to either accept or reject the transfer
20. No institution would be able to finalise admission exercise until after the cut-off date (admission deadline)
