JAMB eases age limit for 2024/2025 admissions, expanding opportunities for younger candidates.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) announced on Thursday 17th October, 2024 a relaxation of the age limit for tertiary institution admissions. According to JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin, candidates who will turn 16 by August 31, 2025, are now eligible for admission, provided they meet the institution's standards.
This move aims to ensure fair opportunities for all candidates and to prevent advantages for those admitted later in the 2024/2025 admission cycle. Benjamin reassured that the relaxation would not compromise institutional standards or policies.
The decision marks a major step toward broadening access to higher education and allowing younger students to pursue academic goals earlier. Institutions are required to submit the names of eligible candidates, turning 16 between January 1 and August 31, 2025, within one week.
