Chief Executive, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde stood by Nigeria Universities by saying that the Universities we have here are better than the ones we have in countries like Ghana, Malaysia and Korea.
In an interview with journalists in Ilorin on Friday, he stated that some people were having inappropriate opinion of Nigerian universities because of alleged ignorance. He added that many of those who are schooling in the aforementioned countries were returning to study in Nigeria, having realised that Nigerians universities are of superior potential.
“Nigeria has better universities than that in Ghana. I can bet it. Why should Nigerians spend over N1bn yearly for education in Ghana? They are ignorant ones. They want to come back home. I can tell you authoritatively that they want to come back to Nigeria and study. Some of them even go to Malaysia, Korea. Nigeria is better I now it,” he said.
Ojerinde also stated that JAMB had perfected arrangements to ensure that the forthcoming Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination was hitch-free. He added that JAMB accredited 160 examination centres this year as against 65 last year. According to him, 300 centres applied for consideration this year but only 160 met the criteria.
The JAMB boss also said that the board was conducting UTME in seven foreign countries. He explained that the examinations were being conducted at Accra, London, Johannesburg, Jedda, Ivory Coast, Cotonou and Cameroon.
