Some prospective 2017 JAMB candidates yesterday in Markurdi, Benue State staged a protest over the tedious manner JAMB is going about the 2017 UTME registration.
The protest later turned violent as the candidates moved to the JAMB Zonal office located along George Akume Road, Makurdi, Benue State and stated hurling stones, destroying some of the windows of the building housing the JAMB Zonal Office in Markurdi.
They proceeded to block the roads, set up bonfire, causing a huge vehicular traffic. However, the intervention of men of the Nigerian police force kept the situation from further deteriorating.
One of the candidates who spoke, described the level of frustration he faced just to register for the examination.
“For three days, I was at Union Bank but could not process the payment as required, I later moved to Post Office in Makurdi where I finally paid to get the code and this was after two days.”
Commenting on this, the zonal coordinator, Mr Samuel Umoru, stated that many of the applicants are not patient to go through the registration process, emphasizing that the patient ones have been able to register with little tress.
