JAMB announces 2023 most sought after institutions, considers the use of mobile phones for UTME

The University of Ilorin, Nigeria and the University of Lagos top the list of most sought after universities for the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations. According to a presentation by the Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, during the 2023 policy meeting, the top 10 institutions were recognised due to the attraction of high number of applicants during the 2023 UTME application period.

In the list, the University of Ilorin was first, followed by the University of Lagos in second place, Lagos State University in third place,Federal University, Oye-Ekiti in fourth place.

Others in the top 10 are University of Benin, University of Nigeria, Obafemi Awolowo University, Nnamdi Azikwe University, Nigerian Defence Academy and the University of Ibadan.

JAMB has also revealed that it is considering the possibility of a “Bring Your Own Device” initiative for the Unified Tertiary Matriculations Examinations and the Direct Entry Examinations. According to Oloyede, the initiative is such that it would allow candidates to take the examinations on their mobile phones. The JAMB boss noted that the board has continued to spend huge amounts of money on the conduct of examinations, hence the need for the initiative.
