The Imo State Government has restored all parcels of land excised by the Land Excision and Revocation of Rights of Occupancy Order 2012 of July 4, 2012 to the Federal University of Technology, Owerri in respect of the land previously allocated to the University. This cheering news was conveyed to the University via letter ref: MLSUP/LOW/5059/IV/303 dated January 23, 2014 signed by B. E. Ogwunga for the Honourable Commissioner of Lands, Survey and Urban Planning. The letter reads in part that the Public Notice on Land Excision and Revocation Order, 2012 have been cancelled. All the Rights of Occupancy affected by the Land Excision and Revocation Order 2012 have been restored.
It would be recalled that the Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Owelle Rochas Anayo Okoroocha had approved the Land Excision and Revocation of Rights of Occupancy Order 2012 of 4th July, 2012 in respect of about 75% of the FUTO land.
In his remarks at the development, the Vice-Chancellor noted that with the corrigendum notice in respect of the Revocation Order 2012 of July, 2012 over the Land for the establishment of Federal University of Technology, Owerri, all those portions of land described in the schedules A, B and C of the Land Excision and Revocation of Certificate of Occupancy Order 2012 are not excised and affected by the Land Excision and Revocation of Certificate of Occupancy Order 2012. He commended the Governor for showing wisdom and understanding in the resolution of the matter. He also expressed gratitude to the Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission, Prof Julius Okojie for his prompt action and support.
