Imo Poly Now a Graduate Trainee Centre as they admit SURE-P Candidates

In line with the Federal Government’s Agricultural Transformation Agenda, ATA, and following Government’s recognition of Imo State Polytechnic Umuagwo as a great contributor to the development of

agriculture in Nigeria, the institution has been designated a Graduate Trainee Centre,for ongoing Graduate Internship Scheme, GIS, of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

The Rector, Rev.Fr.Dr. Wence Madu disclosed this while speaking to newsmen on the current development in the Polytechnic.

To this end, Government, in the current Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme, SURE-P, has posted candidates to the polytechnic as interns in various agricaultural fields. Its main objective is to increase the employability value of these graduates through effective enhancement of entrepreneurial skills possible in the areas of specialization.

The candidates who are graduates in agricultural and related discipline have since been given orientation and inducted into the programme. In his opening remark during the induction held at the polytechnic on August 29, 2013, the SURE-P coordinator, Imo State Polytechnic, Mr. Eke Callistus reminded the inductees of the demands of the programme and promised them maximum co-operation to enable them have best of experiences in the programme.

Addressing the candidates, the Director, Imo State Polytechnic Farms, Dir. Sir Atu Onyemelukwe charged the candidates to take the programme seriously and make the best out of it so that they can become employable and, or self-reliant at the end. He assured them that the polytechnic has all they need to be equipped in their chosen fields.

Contributing, the head, Department of Fisheries and Marine Technology, Mr. Ezeafulukwe, advised the candidates to avail themselves of the opportunities that abound in the polytechnic, stressing that the staff of the polytechnic are ready to cooperate with them to achieve maximum result.

On a note of appreciation, one of the SURE-P candidates, Iwuji Ozobiara P, a graduate of animal production, thanked the institution for granting them the opportunity to do the programme in the polytechnic, while pledging that they will certainly make effective use of the opportunity.
