ICAN Seeks Partnership With UNILORIN

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) is seeking a partnership arrangement with the University of Ilorin on how to improve the quality and increase the number of chartered accountants produced by the Institute.

ICAN President, Mr. Kabir Alkali Mohammed, made this known last Thursday (March 6, 2014), when he led members of the ICAN Council on a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. AbudulGaniyu Ambali, in his office.

Mr. Mohammed explained that the University of Ilorin became the obvious choice because of the structural development, academic stability and cultural identity that have been the hallmark of the University for years.

“You have a history of progress and we want you to be part of ICAN. This is why we are seeking to have agreement with the University in some key areas of interest. We are confident you will be interested because we know this is in line with your philosophy.”, he said.

The 49th ICAN President pointed out that the University of Ilorin is the third largest employer of chartered accountants among universities in the country, adding that the Nigerian community is aware of the progress and success of the University.

Mr. Mohammed also sought the cooperation of the University of Ilorin to allow chartered accountants in the institution to attend compulsory structured training programmes to update their knowledge, saying that the accountants would better serve the University by undertaking such programmes.

Welcoming the ICAN President and his team to the University, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Yisa Fakunle, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, said that the University is committed to the continuous professional development of all members of its staff. He added that all staff members are encouraged to attend seminars and trainings relevant to their areas of calling, as the University is the main beneficiary of staff training and retraining.

Members of the ICAN Council and Kwara State officials that accompanied the President included Mr. Salaudeen Ibrahim, Ilorin District Chairman; Mr. B. Badmus, Ilorin District Vice-Chairman; Mr. Razak Jaiyeola, Council Members; Mr. Haruna N. Yahaya, Council Members; Mr. Hart Ozoya, Council Member; and Mr. Odukoya O. Olusoji, Deputy Registrar.
