The last batch of teams from the National Universities Commission (NUC)for resource verification of some academic programmes, for both undergraduate and postgraduate of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai verified staffing, library and structures for the take off of MBBS, which is Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery In a welcome address, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abu Kasim Adamu assured the team of the Management's maximum cooperation for a successful exercise.
He said that the exercise was very important to the University and Niger State and enjoined them to be objective in their assessment to help the State reduce medical tourism. P
Professor Adamu stressed that the verification was very important to the University, especially in the development of the State, adding that the University was very mindful of quality hence the needed advice from professionals.
Responding, the Chairman of the team, Professor Ibrahim Yakasai assured the Management of fair and objective assessment of all the programmes in order to improve the quality and standard of various academic programmes in the medical profession in the University.
Professor Yakasai used the forum to condole the Management and Niger State Government over the loss of the National President of Islamic Education Trust(IET) and prayed God to grant the soul of the deceased eternal rest.
He advised the University Management to remain very committed to medical programmes by involving major stakeholders in the State for the exercise. Also speaking, the representative of the National Universities Commission(NUC) and Secretary of the team, Mallam Hayatuddeen Umar said the team was in the University for a peer review to standardize the medical programmes.
The team later round medical facilities for the programme, expressed satisfaction with the clean environment of the General Hospital, Minna, coupled with the steady power supply good for medical academic exercise.
A lot of recommendations and suggestions that would make the dream of standard college of health sciences a reality were made during the exit briefing. Giving a closing remark, the Registrar, Alhaji Musa Ango Abdullahi assured the team of a maximum cooperation from the University Management, stressing that a medical programme by the University was for the benefit of the State.
