The Management of the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt, has announced the suspension of one of its lecturers in the Department of Curriculum Studies, Dr. Samuel Abiye, over a sex-for-grade scandal. This comes barely one week after one Mr. Godwin Olai, a lecturer with the university was suspended for a similar offense.
The institution's vice-chancellor, Prof. Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, August 24, via his Facebook page. He revealed that the lecturer was recorded by a female student whom he had promised to help pass all her courses in the department, in exchange for sexual relations.
The lecturer was said to have further directed the female student to meet him at the King James Hotels towards the Eagle Cement area of Rumuolumeni, where she was to be explored sexually in exchange for grades
Following the uncovering of the illicit act, the lecturer has been suspended for 3 months and placed on half salary. All the courses taught by Dr. Abiye for the 1st semester of 2020/2021 are to be regraded through a conference marking supervised by the Dean of Education. All his courses and supervisees have been reassigned to other lecturers in his department.
The case has been forwarded to the University Staff Disciplinary Committee for further investigation to determine the fate of the lecturer.
