Two students of the Federal University of Lafia, Nasarawa State, and two others, were on Saturday night, October 16 abducted by unknown gunmen.
The abduction took place after a large number of the gunmen invaded the Mararaba Akunza community of the institution between 7-8 pm on the said day, shooting sporadically into the air before taking their victims to an unknown destination.
One of the victims was later identified as Zafir Yahaya, the first son of a prominent politician in Nasarawa state, Mr. Yahaya Adams, popularly called Majo. The kidnappers reportedly reached out to the family of the victims and demanded a N25 million ransom.
Reacting to the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mr. Abubakar Ibrahim, confirmed the incident but denied that the victims were students of the Federal University of Lafia, while the state police spokesperson, ASP Nansel Ramhan, said no official complaint has been lodged concerning the abduction, and the police only got to hear of it from social media.
