Gunmen abduct TASU lecturer from staff quarters

Dr. Umar Buba, the Head of the Department of Forestry and Wildlife Management (Faculty of Agriculture) in Taraba state university, has been kidnapped by armed men from the university staff quarters in Jalingo, Taraba state capital.

The university vice-chancellor, Professor Vincent Ado-Tenebe who confirmed the incident said the lecturer was kidnapped in the early hours of Sunday, May 30, after the gunmen stormed his residence and took him captive. He added that the culprits fired sporadic gunshots to displace the security officials attached to the staff quarters during the attack.

The Vice-Chancellor further disclosed that the management of the institution would engage concerned authorities to grant licences for staff to have their guns for their protection and that of the students, as they can't fight gunmen with bare hands.

Also confirming the abduction, the Taraba police spokesperson, David Misal said the police were on the trail of the kidnappers to rescue the lecturer and called on the residents to provide the police with useful information that would aid the rescue of the lecturer.
