Anambra State Governor, Mr Peter Obi has
awarded scholarship to four indigenous students
of the state who bagged first class degrees in
various disciplines in tertiary institutions.
Announcing the scholarship, Obi said that his
government had made it a policy to encourage
hard work by rewarding any citizen of the state
who made a first class.
This, he said, would help to motivate secondary
school students and fasten the speed of the
achievement of the Millennium Development
Goals, (MDGs) which is the major trust of his
government.
The Governor, who was speaking at Ekwueme
Square where he gave out 80 busses to public
and missionary schools in the state in an event
tagged ‘the final push’ said his government was
working hard to bequeath a lasting legacy in the
education sector before leaving office.
Obi also assured that before January of 2014,
his government would have fully delivered buses,
computers and power generating sets to all the
public and missionary schools in the state, to
uplift the standard of education.
Earlier in her remark, the state commissioner for
education, Dr Uju Okeke hailed Obi for what he
described as an unparalleled interest in the
state’s education sector.
She disclosed that Monday’s event brought to
300 the number of busses so far distributed to
schools in Anambra State.
The four students who bagged the N1 million
worth of scholarship are- Miss Ezue Cynthia
Chinnenye and Miss Muojekwu Angela of
Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University,
Mister Uchenna Nze of Tantian University and
Miss Lucy Chidinma of Nnamdi Azikiwe
University , Awka.
In a remark, the Chairman, House Committee on
Education, in the Anambra State House of
Assembly, Hon Rita Maduabum described Obi as
a gift to Anambra people.
She added that the Governor had exhibited a
rare spirit by working towards the development
of the State even three months to the end of his
tenure.
