Adamawa State Governor commissions solar power projects at College of Health, Mubi

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri said he is delighted to commission the Solar Nigeria Power Project funded by EU and implemented by the Department of International Development (DFID) in collaboration with AECOM.

Governor Fintiri said the provision of power infrastructure is central to our recovery effort in areas devastated by the insurgency. This is why he’s glad to note that this particular project has been provided in eight locations including the College of Health Technology Mubi, using alternative energy. The provision of electricity among other social amenities will be pursued within the available resources in order to ensure rapid economic development.

Governor Fintiri recommended and appreciates the EU and the Federal Ministry of Power for this intervention which will go a long way in boosting the provision of efficient Health services in the benefiting areas. And he also, appeals to the Development partners for Adamawa State to be considered for the second phase to include more Health facilities and institutions.

Governor Fintiri said it is his pleasure to commission the Solar Power Project to the Glory of God and the benefit of mankind. He further said Solar power system if correctly installed and well maintained, can last for up to twenty years thus providing a lasting, dependable and sustainable energy solution.

Speaking at the ocassion Engr. Sale Mamman, Minister of Power said he’s pleased to be in Adamawa State for the commissioning of Solar Nigeria Power Projects in various Local Government Areas of Adamawa State comprising of various capacities in both Primary Health Centre and Educational Institutions. The Minister said more than 40 New Mini-Grid projects have been commissioned across the country providing reliable power supply to over 40,000 people in Off-Grid areas.

He ingeminates that the projects are particularly unique because they were conceived under a Technical Assistance grant programme which is a bilateral cooperation programme that is funded by the European Union, implemented by the Department for International Development (DFID) with oversight provided by the Ministry. In addition, these projects were also implemented under a framework, which provides sustainable, reliable and affordable energy supply consistent with our commitment to achieve United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal.

We are grateful to the European Union and their implementation partners who collaborated with us to develop these projects, providing reliable electricity supply, which will improve the lives of people through improved: health care, education, water and jobs creation. It is therefore not a coincidence that we are gathered here to commission the Solar Power Energy System at various Primary Health Care Centers and Schools.

Our being here today reflect a deliberate demonstration of the importance both the State and Federal governments attached to the provision of electricity in remote and underserved rural communities all over Nigeria using distributed power generation with locally available resource such as solar. It also demonstrates our appreciation for the support received by the projects from our development partners the European Union. I want to charge the Adamawa State Government to scale up these pilot solar projects and ensure their sustainability.
