Governor Bello shuts boarding schools in 4 LGAs in Niger state

Following the abduction of 27 students and 3 staff members of Government Science School, Kagara, Niger State, the state governor, Sani Bello has ordered the immediate closure of all the boarding schools in four local government areas of the state.

The Governor spoke with newsmen in Minna and announced the closure of all boarding schools in Rafi, Mariga, Munya, and Shiroro local government areas of the state till further notice.

The Governor averred that the government will not pay ransom to the bandits as they will use it to buy sophisticated weapons and cause further harm.

In a separate development, a video showing bandits celebrating the abduction of passengers of a bus that was attacked on Sunday, February 14, and demanding N500 million ransom has surfaced online. To this end, the senate today, February 17, has declared a state of emergency on the security sector of the country.
