The SWIFT Fellowships are an exciting opportunity for early-career researchers & professionals to expand their experience and independence in African meteorological research and gain leadership experience.

Successful applicants will become valued contributors of the African-SWIFT project, which aims to develop sustainable research capability in tropical weather forecasting to enhance the livelihoods of African populations, and improve the economies of African countries.

GCRF African SWIFT Fellowship Programme Eligibility.

  • Open to early career researchers & professionals working in weather and climate research and applied social and natural sciences in the field of African weather prediction.
  • Fellowship applications must be aligned with the SWIFT research themes
  • Applicants must be of Sub-Saharan African nationality, but may be based anywhere at the time of application.

GCRF African SWIFT Fellowship Programme Benefits.

  • SWIFT fellows will be paid a very competitive salary commensurate with that of an early career lecturer salary in the host country of the fellowship.
  • In addition, fellows may also apply for additional funds to cover travel and related costs, Host Institute costs and research costs, within reasonable limits.

GCRF African SWIFT Fellowship Programme Conditions.

  • Fellowships must be between 12 and 18 months in duration.
  • The start and end timing of the fellowships is flexible within the following constraints: fellowships should begin between March 1 and June 30, 2020 and must end no later than September 30, 2021.
  • Fellowships may be carried out as a split appointment, but must be carried out within the specified timeframe.
  • Fellows may apply to work with a SWIFT partner organisation in Senegal, Nigeria, Ghana, Niger or Kenya.

How to Apply for GCRF African SWIFT Fellowship Programme.

The following documents must be submitted to the SWIFT Project Office via [email protected] before midnight on December 6, 2019:

  • Fellowship Proposal
  • Copy of BSc, MSc and/or PhD certificate (if already awarded)
  • Two documents (either published papers or thesis chapters) demonstrating the candidate’s ability to produce/publish scientific research
  • Host Institute Endorsement Form (to be submitted by the Host Institute)
  • Home Institute Endorsement Form (to be submitted by the Home Institute)
  • Two professional reference forms (to be submitted by the referees)

The deadline for applications is Friday 6th December 2019.
