8 students of FUTO have been awarded the 2013 APM Terminals Scholarship for their outstanding and excellent performance during the scholarship screening exercise involving several universities in Nigeria, which was recently conducted by the company.
The proud awardees are Idongesit Victor Friday, Anyanwu Ikenna Michael, Omeni Gerald C., Ekpo Adanna, Ifekaonwu Ikenna Ezekiel, Oboghor Oreva Andrew, Uche Emmanuel and Ikoko Ejiro Matilda.
The Managing Director of APM Terminals Mr. Dallas Hampton, while presenting the award stated that the scholarship was given in recognition of the high academic quality and standard displayed by the students, which stood them out among the crowd during the screening. He recalled that the company had earlier awarded scholarships to about 50 Engineering undergraduates of some Universities and Polytechnics across the country and provided industrial working experience to top ten of the group. He, therefore, urged FUTO students to put in more efforts so as to be among the top 10 of the Industry’s trainees for the year.
Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. C. C. Asiabaka, commended APM Terminals for their kind gesture towards Nigerian students especially FUTO students, adding that this was the second time FUTO students won the scholarship award. He stated that as an institution that is geared towards capacity building, research and development, FUTO would be interested in partnering with the APM Terminals as their services will highly be needed in the Maritime Department of the University.
