The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri(FUTO), Prof. Asiabaka, during the 31st matriculation ceremony of the University, announced a scholarship scheme for the best undergraduate student in each School of the University with effect from the current academic session.
He further explained that the modality for the award of the scholarship would be based on student with the highest cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). According to Prof. Asiabaka, the entitlements for the beneficiaries of the scheme include tuition and hostel accommodation. He explained that the sustenance of the award will depend on the high academic performance.
Prof. Asiabaka therefore charged the new students with studious attitude, to shun cultism, violence and all manner of vices that could mar their academic ambition. Prof. Asiabaka used the opportunity to disclose his efforts for transforming the University in line with the vision of his administration’s Quest for Excellence.
The new face of the University according to him is eloquently evident in the transparent conduct of examination, timely marking and grading of scripts as well as release of results, zero tolerance to sorting and improved environmental friendliness to students and staff.
