One of the worlds leading multinational company in software development, Microsoft Inc. has concluded plans of inaugurating an Information Technology Academy in Federal University of Technology Owerri.
This was made known to the public by the VC of the school Professor Chigozie C. Asiabaka after signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Microsoft Partner in Nigeria, Sagamy Technologies Nigeria Limited.
While commenting on the development, the Vice-Chancellor stated that the Academy will be a vital source of IGR for the University, improve the quality of graduates as they will have the opportunity of industry based training and certification, empower staff and students with relevant ICT skills as well as numerous e-resources.
In her remarks, the Director, ICT Centre, Engr Prof (Mrs) G. A. Chukwudebe commended the University Management for their support and vision in the realization of the project.
She added that the University community would benefit from the establishment of the IT Academy with target participant such as students studying computer science, Information Management Technology, recent graduates, youth corpers, members of the general public and focused training for organisations.
She added that the Academy will become operational in April 2014 with the first batch of students for training.
