FUTMINNA Urban and Regional Planning (URP) Department gets full accreditation

Urban & Regional Planning Department of the institution has been awarded full accreditation status by the Town Planners Registration Council of Nigeria(TOPREC) to run B. Tech, M. Tech and PGD programmes for five academic sessions.

This was made known on Thursday, March 14, 2013 when the Niger State chapter of the body paid a courtesy call on the VC in his office at the Senate Building, Main Campus, Gidan Kwano.

Chairman, TOPREC Niger State Chapter, Mr. Ibrahim Shafin said the department satisfied all requirements needed for the attainment of five years full accreditation status from 2010/11-2014/15 academic sessions.

Mr. Shafin revealed that graduates of the programmes within the five years period are eligible for registration as Town Planners in consonance with TOPREC regulations and urged the department to adhere to approved standards.

The VC, Prof. Musbau Adewumi Akanji, FNSBMB, thanked TOPREC for the fair assessment of the department while noting that the University Management would continue to support the department in order to sustain the standard of learning.

Prof. Akanji also commended lecturers of the department for their efforts towards ensuring that the department obtains full accreditation status.
“I will make the announcement in Senate and I will also inform the University Governing Council that a section of the University has made us proud,” Prof. Akanji stated.

TOPREC was established by Decree N0.3 of 1988, is the statutory body mandated to determine standards of training, skill and knowledge to be attained by persons seeking to become members of the Urban and Regional Planning profession in Nigeria.
