FUTA elects new student leaders

The Students of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) have elected new leaders to steer the affairs of the Students’ Union for the next dispensation of the Students Union Year.

In a keenly contested election organized by the Student Electoral Commission in collaboration with the Students’ Affairs Division of the University on May 7, 2024, Abejoye Adegoriola Taiwo, a 300 level student of the Department of Civil Engineering emerged President, while Adewumi Queen Oluwatoyin, another 300 level student in the Department of Biomedical Technology was elected Vice President.

Other elected members of the executive include Olumeku Solomon Adedimeji of Food Science Technology Department as General Secretary, Arikewuyo Qudus Oluwaferanmi as Assistant General Secretary, Dufale Enoch Oghenekparobor, Marine Science & Technology Department as Welfare Officer, Ayileka Oluwatimilehin Israel, Project Management Technology Department as Treasurer, Abayomi Olamilekan David, Agricultural Engineering Department as Financial Secretary, Arifayan Ayomide Elijah, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department as Public Relations Officer, Oladejo Emmanuel Ayomide as Director of Socials and Iyare Praise Osazee of the Department of Marine Science & Technology as Director of Sports.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji congratulates all elected leaders for lending themselves to the service of their fellow students. She encouraged them not misuse the opportunity but utilize it to open channels to better the lot of students and create life-long connections for future purpose. She also charged them not to abandon the purpose for which they originally came to school, which is to study and get good grades, charging them to be good examples and ambassadors to other students and the University as a whole.

Dean , Students Affairs Division, Professor David Oke says the new leaders will take the oath of office in due course.
