Council confirms Professor Olatunde Arayela’s appointment as Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) Deputy Vice-Chancellor.

The Council of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, has confirmed the appointment of Professor Olatunde Arayela as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor [Academic] for a term of two years following his election by the Senate. In the letter conveying the appointment, the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Dr. (Mrs.) Modupe Ajayi, said Professor Arayela, whose appointment takes effect from April 1, 2015 will be responsible for academic administration, curriculum development, examination, admissions and other senate matters.
Arayela, 57, brings to his position a rich experience in academic and administration. He obtained B.Sc. (Arch) and M.Sc. (Arch) in 1981 and 1983 respectively from the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. He also has M.Sc. (Urban and Regional Planning) from the same Institution in 1996. He bagged Ph.D. (Architecture) from the Federal University of Technology, Akure in 2000.
He started his academic career in 1984 as Honorary Lecturer at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and was later offered appointment as an Assistant Lecturer in the same Institution after his NYSC. He was promoted Lecturer II in 1987 and in 1990 he transferred his services to the Federal University of Technology, Akure as Lecturer I. He became Senior Lecturer in 1996 and was promoted Reader in 2000. He became a substantive Professor of Architecture in February, 2002. He was also the pioneer Head of the Department of Architecture and served as Dean of the Postgraduate School from 2008 to 2010.
Arayela, who has served as chairman/member of several university committees was until his new appointment the Director of Academic Planning.
As a professional architect, Professor Arayela is registered with the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA) and chartered by the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON). He was a member of the Executive Council of NIA (2005-2010) and a former Council Member of ARCON (2010-2013).
A widely travelled academic and researcher, Professor Arayela, by virtue of this position is a Principal Officer of the University and a member of Council. He is happily married with children.
