FUPRE Students' Protest: An Eye Witness Account

Few days after exams when a good number of students have gone back home,the school management of Federal University of Petroleum Resources released the tuition fee for next session and it is as follows;

Tuition fee originally N26,000 increased to N40,000 and the hostel fee originally N10,000 increased to N50,000.

On 26th of Jan 2015,by 10.00am,students embarked on a peaceful protest,we got the main gate locked with the motive that no staff will leave the school.

After 3and1/2 hours,fuprites left the gate since their target(DVC) escaped through the back gate.Fuprites then stormed the east-west federal road. They set damaged car tyres ablaze on the road,after some hours a broadcasting station came and took coverage of the scene then we were finally addressed by a chief in the army assuring us that something will be done about the sudden increment of the fee. The peaceful protest ended by 4.00pm.
