Over 7,000 prospective students are scrambling for the 500 slots at the Federal University, Oye Ekiti.
The Vice Chancellor of the university , Prof Isaac Asuzu disclosed this to newsmen at the campus weekend during the 2013 Post Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination(UTME)
He said it was the policy of the university that all the prospective applicants must write their examination online
Azuzu said the university would conduct the examination batch by batch for the remaining one week ,as the institution can boast of having 250 computers
The VC said the university needs about N1.5 billion to provide facilities in the Faculty of Engineering.
The Professor of Veterinary Medicine, said a committee had been raised to reach out to corporate bodies and international organizations to be able to actualize the target.
He said the mandated Entrepreneurial courses being offered by the
students of the University , was meant to correct the impression
being at local and international levels that Nigerian graduates are employable.
He further disclosed that the Federal Government has expended a sum of N3.5 billion to provide infrastructure in the institution, which he said was released in two tranches.
“ For the faculty of Engineering to be a world class or 21st century Faculty, we will need up to N1.5 billion particularly to provide the best Laboratory that will offer our students the best learning process. We cannot rely on government alone and that is why we are reaching out to private bodies”.
Azuzu said the institution is presently strengthening its Research and innovation Centre, saying the institution recently sent one of its Directors and academic staff to China to understudy some new innovations in the areas of Science and Technology.
