FUOTUOKE student drowns in swimming pool, police launches manhunt for friends

The lifeless body of a 21-year-old student of the Federal University Otuoke, Bright Akhere, was found floating in a swimming pool at a popular event center in Otuoke, Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa state.

The deceased, a student in the Department of Mathematics, was said to have gone out with some of his friends to swim at the pool on April 24th when he reportedly drowned. His friends who are now at large, are believed to have left the pool at about 5 pm of the same day, after he drowned.

The Bayelsa state police command, in a statement issued by its spokesperson, SP Asinim Butswat, said the police received a report that the corpse of a young man was seen floating in the swimming pool. The statement added that a team of operatives visited the scene and evacuated the corpse to the mortuary for autopsy. 

The statement added that the police have launched a manhunt for the friends of the student who are now at large and that an investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the student's death has been opened.
