Following the directives of the Education Minister, Alhaji Adamu Adamu in 2018, for the discontinuation of all management courses in specialized institutions, the Students’ Union Government (SUG), of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has called on the Federal Government to have a rethink and consider reinstating management science courses.
The President of the SUG, Comrade Michael Oloyede made the appeal while speaking at a news conference on Wednesday, 17 February, saying that restoring the college has become a matter of urgency. Oloyede said the college of management sciences had during its existence, made agricultural courses competitive and appealing, by embracing the business and management aspects of agriculture.
He added that running management science courses in universities of agriculture was an acceptable global practice and this does not affect the ability of the university to train students in the area of its key mandate.
The college of management sciences is made up of five departments – accounting, banking and finance, business administration, economics, and entrepreneurial studies, and all have NUC full accreditation which validates the programmers.
