Lagos-based James Ogunbor Education Foundation has donated school bags to some pupils of Isheri Grammar School, in Berger area of Lagos State.
The Coordinator of the foundation, Florence Ogunbor, who described it as an organisation that supports education for children and youths in Africa, said the project tagged ‘Supporting Public School Children with School Bags and Shoes’ was one of its numerous projects to achieve the mission.
Ogunbor said, “We just commenced the first phase of the project. Our overall goal for the project is to reach public school children in all 36 states of the federation. But we are starting from Lagos State and our target in each state is 500 pupils.”
She noted that prior to the outing at Isheri Grammar School, the foundation had done a survey to inspect and discover children coming to school with no school bags and shoes.
“We found pupils coming to school with bare feet, polythene bags, no bags at all and some put their books in their friends’ bags. We also tried to find out why they had these conditions and many of the pupils said their parents had no money to afford buy them these materials,” Ogunbor said.
She added that more public school pupils would receive materials until the foundation met its target of 500 kids.
