Flinders University Indigenous Rural Nursing Scholarship 2023

The Rural and Remote Nursing Placement Scholarship has been established to provide assistance to undergraduate Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Bachelor of Nursing students undertaking their Professional Experience Placement (PEP) at an approved clinical education facility in a rural or remote setting.

The Scholarship has been established through a generous donation from St Theodore’s Anglican Church, Toorak Gardens.

Aim and Benefits of Indigenous Rural Nursing Scholarship

The scholarship will provide a contribution towards a living allowance and travel costs, and subject to the availability of funds, will be awarded to one student to a total value of $2,000 annually.

Requirements for Indigenous Rural Nursing Scholarship Qualification

Applicants for the scholarship must:

  • Be of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent; and
  • Identify as an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander; and
  • Be accepted as an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander; and
  • Be enrolled in, or intending to enrol in, a PEP topic in the second or third year of the Bachelor of Nursing at Flinders University; and
  • Be undertaking the placement in a rural venue as defined by the Australian Statistical Geography Standard Remoteness Areas 2-5 excluding Mount Barker; and
  • The clinical education facility has been approved by the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.

Selection Criteria

The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and the applicant’s commitment to working in a rural or remote area upon completion of their studies.

Selection of the candidate(s) will be made by a panel which will include representatives from the College of Nursing and Health Sciences and the Office of Indigenous Strategy and Engagement.
