Firm awards 13 post-graduate scholarships

Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited has
awarded international post- graduate scholarships to 13 first class Nigerian graduates. The EEPNL, an affiliate of Exxon Mobil Producing Nigeria, in a statement on Monday, said the offer would enable the beneficiaries to further their careers in the oil and gas industry.

The scholarships cover tuition, accommodation and sundry fees for their personal upkeep. At the award presentation in Lagos, the Executive Director, Mobil Producing Nigeria, Mr. Udom Inoyo, said, "It does not need to be pointed out that the academic system in Nigeria is in a deplorable condition. "Recent happenings alone are reflective of the state of affairs in the education sector.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities is once again on strike, putting the education of several thousands of students on hold indefinitely. "Things cannot be allowed to continue as they are. The challenge facing our educational institutions is something that must be addressed by everyone. "At EEPNL, we are doing our part by offering these international post-graduate awards to qualified students.

We give them the opportunity to further their educational goals in an environment free of some of the challenges we are presently facing in Nigeria." He also urged the beneficiaries to put more efforts in the pursuit of their careers. He added, "You have done well to have come this far. But now, you must go even further.

You must see yourselves as ambassadors of Nigeria and, above all, you must return to make contributions to national development."

The Deputy Manager, National Petroleum Investments Management Services, Mrs. Iyabo Ayobami- Ojo, said, "We at NAPIMS have identified EEPNL's scholarship award as impactful if you desire higher growth in life. "My charge to you is that you should go there, work hard and be good ambassadors to Exxon Mobil, to your parents and to your country, Nigeria."
