The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has said that the Federal Government is yet to address most of the demands it made during the 2022 industrial action it embarked on.
Speaking during an interview with Channels TV on Thursday, April 6, the union president, Emmanuel Osodeke, said since they called off the strike based on a court order, the federal government never bothered to convene a single meeting with the union and also refused to pay them their entitlements.
He explained that the union members are battling to meet up with the academic calendar in spite of the government’s position on pro-rata pay.
When asked about the newly approved N320bn intervention fund, Osodeke commended the government for the fund release and asked for redistribution of the fund to ensure 90% goes to the tertiary institutions. According to him, only about N186 billion out of the N320bn (representing 59%) will directly go into the coffers of all the universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education, while the balance of N132 billion will be left for TETFund for bureaucratic purposes.
