President Muhammadu Buhari, on Friday, February 5, approved the appointment of visitation panels to 25 Federal Polytechnics and 21 Colleges of Education in the country, in an exercise geared towards evaluating the overall performance of the tertiary institutions.
According to a statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Relations in the Federal Ministry of Education, Ben Goong, the constitution of the panels was consequent to a promise made by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, during his 2020 Annual Ministerial Press Briefing on January 21, 2021, to release the visitation panels in two weeks.
The visitation panels are expected to have five members and a secretary each which will examine the financial management of the institutions, examine the relationship between the institution and the various statutory bodies it interacts with, evaluate the quality of the leadership of the institutions, examine all academic programs, policies and practices, among others.
