FG Announces Resumption and New 2020 WAEC Date

The Federal Government has announced resumption date and a new date for the conduct of the 2020 WAEC examination in all the Secondary schools in the country. This was contained in a statement by the Director of Press and Information of the ministry, Bem Goong.

According to him, this was part of the unanimous decisions reached at a virtual consultative meeting between the Federal Ministry of Education, Honourable Commissioners of Education of the 36 states, the Nigerian Union of Teachers, (NUT), the proprietors of private schools, and Chief Executives of examination bodies.

The statement stated that resumption date for Secondary School students participating in the 2020 WAEC examination in the country is August 4th, 2020 while the new date for the 2020 WAEC exam is now August 17th, 2020.

This means that students have two weeks within which to prepare for the West African Examinations (WAEC) which will now commence 17th August 2020.

The meeting also resolved that a passionate appeal be made to the Federal Government through the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 and public-spirited Nigerians for assistance to schools across the country to enable them fast track the preparations for safe reopening, as agreed.

The statement also stated that a meeting between the Federal Ministry of Education and Chief Executives of examination bodies namely, NECO, NABTEB and NBAIS will hold to harmonize their examination dates, which will be conveyed to stakeholders expeditiously by the Federal Ministry of Education.
