The federal government has reiterated it stands on the resumption date for all primary, secondary, polytechnics, universities and other tertiary institutions in Nigeria. The Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Nwajiuba, speaking at the daily briefing of the on Wednesday, asked parents and guardians to give less credence to the rumours making the rounds as regards the June 8th resumption date for schools.
Nwajiuba stated categorically that the “June 8 school resumption date for schools is false,” hence of no effect he stated.
The minister also explained the federal government’s model that will ensure all students don’t return to school at the same time is still in place and a concrete plan is still being worked on so as to safeguard the lives of all students as well as aged parents and guardians who are susceptible to the virus.
Nwajiuba further opined that the plan entails adopting a two-shift system and allowing those who will write exams to return earlier than others, however, this is still a work in progress as at today.
He advised both teachers and lecturers to make good use of this period in upgrading their skills and think of how to make their teachings impact. Those running the secondary schools should think of what to do so that when schools resume we will have enough resources. While students in tertiary institutions are advised to go through their curriculum as well as keep in touch with their class representatives for any important news from their schools.
