Federal Government Partners WAEC to Fight Exam Malpractices

The West African Examinations Council, WAEC, has gone into partnership with the Federal Government in efforts to stamp out examination malpractices.

WAEC Chairman and Registrar, Prof. Jonas Redwood-Sawyerr, said this in Abuja, yesterday, when he led the council on a courtesy visit to the Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqayyatu Rufa’i,and Minister of State, Education, Mr. Ezenwo Wike.

The registrar said the examination body was ready to go along with the government in fighting exam malpractices, adding that WAEC’s integrity must be maintained.

He added that the standard of its examinations would not only be sustained but improved upon, being the foremost examination body in the world.

In her response, Prof Rufa’i said the challenge of exam malpractices the body suffered in the country and all sister- countries would be curbed drastically.

She said said the government on its part was not resting on its oars at reducing the menace to the barest minimum.

She said ‘the Federal Government was concerned about the issue of poor performance and poor quality of student produced at present.

Rufai assured that government would do all that was needed to checkmate the challenges of exam malpractices, especially in Nigeria.
