A candidate of the 2020 West Africa senior school certificate examination has been forced to abandon sitting for his NECO exams after fake WAEC results bearing his name were circulated online.
The student, Igbacha Loveday Michael attended Community Secondary School (C.S.S.), Bolo, Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area of Rivers State, and had sat for the May/June 2020 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
When WAEC released the 2020 results, Igbacha’s purported “result” was circulated on social media, indicating he scored “A1” in all the nine subjects he sat for. But on further investigations, it was discovered to be false.
The purported fake results had attracted the attention of some people, including government officials who went to the school to confirm the authenticity of the result.
Although Igbacha later released a disclaimer, distancing himself from the viral post, the former school prefect, who registered for the 2020 National Examinations Council (NECO) refused to sit for the examination, saying he is afraid that he may be arrested by security agents for the false result.
