Ex-Kwara poly council member jailed for corruption gets presidential pardon after 3 yrs in jail

Dr. Saadu Alanamu, a former Chairman of the Governing Council of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, was on Monday, August 8, 2022, released from jail after receiving a presidential pardon from President Muhammed Buhari.

Recall that Alanamu was on April 18, 2018, remanded in prison custody before being granted bail by Justice Mahmud Abdulgafar on allegations of receiving N5 million from a contractor as a kickback for the award of contracts in the polytechnic.

He was later found guilty of the allegations and sentenced to 12 years imprisonment in May 2019 where he served three years at the Federal Correctional Centre before his pardon in April 2022 alongside 159 others. He was said to have been pardoned based on health grounds and his usefulness to the society.

Speaking with newsmen in Ilorin after his release, he thanked President Buhari and the presidential committee for the show of mercy, as well as his family members and the Islamic clerics for supporting him with prayers over the years.

He also expressed his gratitude to the people of the Ilorin Emirate, especially the Emir, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, adding that he has learned greatly from the experience and holds no grudge against anyone as he is at peace with himself.
