Kingsley Kuku,Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Matters, has donated a multimillion Naira building to be used as a student center to Ekiti State University.
Inaugurating the building, Kuku said the project was in fulfillment of the promise he made to the university management on February 14, 2013 during his 44th birthday when he was honoured by the university’s alumni association.
The president’s aide said that the project could not have been possible but for the intervention of his committee of friends whom, he said, rallied round him to bring the project to reality.
The centre is equipped with modern equipment including a conference hall, restaurant, cafe and offices for union leaders.
In his remarks, the leader of Kuku’s committee of friends, Mr. Allen Onyeama, who also pledged to donate an 18-seater bus to the student union of the institution, urged the students to make best use of the centre to achieve excellence.
Kuku, who is the Chairman, Presidential Committee on Amnesty Progamme, recalled that, “on February 14, 2013 during my 44th birthday when I was honoured by you through the instrumentality of the Ekiti State University Students alumni, I looked around the campus and entered the students union building to honour my colleagues.
“The building was dilapidated and I found out that it was the same building we used some 19 years ago. When I asked the VC what I could give back to my school and he told me ‘Kuku get us a befitting students centre’, I replied that even if I don’t have money I have friends who can assist,” he said.
In his remark, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Dipo Aina, thanked Kuku for the gesture and called on other members of the alumni to emulate him, saying the donation is a challenge to wealthy individuals in the state.
