The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University, Gusau, Prof Magaji Garba, and some ministry of education officials have been indicted in corruption and contract scam scandal, after allegedly embezzling monies budgeted for the construction of the university perimeter fence.
According to reports, trouble started when two contractors who paid N260 million and N108 million respectively to secure the fencing contract, were jilted by the vice-chancellor. The contractors then petitioned the anti-graft agency and the VC was arrested and is presently being held at the cell of the EFCC in Abuja.
The vice-chancellor allegedly connived with some officials of the education ministry to execute the failed perimeter fencing contract with an estimated cost of N3 billion.
The EFCC confirmed the reports in a letter signed by the EFCC Acting Director of Operations, Umar Hadejia, titled, “Investigation activities: Construction of perimeter fence Phase 1 of Federal University Gusau”, and dated January 6, 2021.
