Looking at how the standard of education has fallen so drastically in Nigeria,We,the citizens of this country have placed all the blame on the government and have failed to see if the youths are also a cause of the downward spiral in the educational sector.
I intend to use this medium to blame the students in this nation,to tell them that we are also a big part of the problem. The average Nigerian student today tend not to plan for or lay a solid foundation for the future and if there is cause that is responsible for this act, it is the SOCIAL MEDIA.
We,should take a look at the developed nations in the world and see that those nations depend on the intelligence of their youths. Mark Zuckerberg should be in his late twenties now but already he owns a multi billion empire to his name and he is keen on expanding this empire, now the average Nigerian student spends more time on the social network, spend more time promoting "Mark Zuckerberg" business than they spend on reading their books. We,have become so much addicted to it that we spend thousands monthly,so we can share posts on facebook (this posts are not meaningful in anyway), upload photos on instagram, and also tweets numerous useless tweets on twitter.
I have been on facebook for the past four years and I haven't accrued any benefit from being a staunch facebook user, but even so we find it better than reading chemistry or solving a physics question, that part of life is very boring. Now,we create blogs and post everyday just to increase its popularity, and tweet a lot on twitter for numerous follower, and if I may ask where are they following you to?....I don't expect an answer.
I would advise that we stop these acts and transfer this addiction to our books, and we should reduce the amount we spend on social networks. You can use that money to buy books. If we do that,we will gain more popularity than we will gain on facebook, more followers than we have on twitter, and people will post your pictures on on instagram and also bloggers will post news about you. I intend to heed this advice and I pray you do to.
