Edo govt. and NUT at loggerheads over proposed strike

Following reports about the planned strike action by Edo state primary school teachers, starting from Monday, 18 January, the Edo state government has reacted to the proposed strike action saying it has no basis.

The chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Joan Oviawe, said the state government has been very supportive of teachers, and criticized the decision of the union to commence on an indefinite strike.

According to the SUBEB boss, teachers are well treated in the state, and only three local government councils were yet to pay primary school teachers allowances.
