Ede Poly Students Clash With Thugs Over Death Of Colleague:

The death of a female student of the Federal Polytechnic Ede, Osun State in a road crash has led to  clashes between students and thugs in the town.

It was gathered that the female student who was a Higher National Diploma, HND 1, Accountancy student of the institution and a commercial motorcycle were hit by a truck along Agbale road, Saturday evening, killing her on the spot and leaving the motorcyclist with injuries.

The driver of the truck, who was said to have immediately escaped from the scene, later returned with some men believed to be hired thugs to protect the vehicle from the angry students.

This however led to clashes between the students and the suspected thugs, as eye witnesses claimed four students were macheted while the truck was later razed by the students.

Confirming the incident, the institution’s public relations officer, Mr Kazeem Oyedeji said that apart from the student that died in the accident, four other students of the institution were attacked and presently receiving treatment at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Osogbo.

Though normalcy has returned to the community there was heavy security presence on the streets of the town as heavily armed policemen were seen in strategic places while police patrol vehicles were also in different locations in the town to ensure no further attacks were carried out. (Leadership)
