Delta state clampdown on private lesson centers

In a move to regulate operations of private lesson centers in Dela state, the state government has ordered the immediate closure of all lesson centers in the state on Thursday, 18 February.

Patrick Ukah, the Delta State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education while speaking with members of the state Child Rights Implementation Committee, accused lesson center operators of turning their centers to places of child abuse and miracle centers, where cheating and exam malpractices are encouraged.

According to Ukah, the centers were originally meant to only operate in the evenings, but they are now violating laid down education guidelines for extramural classes by operating in the mornings.

He revealed that operators would now approach the ministry of education for documentation and regularization of their operations.
