Statistical consulting is the most difficult and rewarding aspect of statistics. A consultant applies statistics as an art and science to solve a practical problem. Many different fields have problems – community development, marketing, manufacturing, public health, agriculture, or education – but many of us specialise in only a few application areas. Some consultants work in universities or public health agencies, while others work in industry or own their own businesses.
A strong technical background in statistics, good people skills, and, for many, a good business sense are required for good consulting. Furthermore, modern statistical consulting frequently involves distance relationships with clients as well as distance technology.
This remote statistical internship programme will assist you in developing skills that cover the entire range of steps in the statistical consulting process, including communication and client session management, application of appropriate statistical techniques, interpretation of results, and communication of findings in clear, non-mathematical terms. Real-world datasets from industry, healthcare, and government are used in the hands-on exercises. As a result, it can be used as a model for your analysis in this programme.
Our Statistical Consulting Center and Institute for Development Research collaborate to deliver this programme. Women are strongly encouraged to apply to this programme because we are an equal opportunity and affirmative action organisation.
