COVID-19: Ekiti to reopen schools with effect from September 21

After months of school closure prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi has directed the reopening of primary and secondary schools with effect from Monday, September 21, 2020.

The Governor said students in SSS II, JSS III, and Primary 6 are to resume on September 21, while students in SSS I, JSS II, Primary 5 and 4 are to resume from September 28. Students in JSS I and Primary 1-3 are to resume on October 19, while pupils in Kindergarten and Nursery Schools are expected to resume on November 2, when more assurances of safety for their age bracket would have been established.

Dr Fayemi disclosed this via a state-wide broadcast and further directed tertiary institutions to resume academic activities from October 2. He emphasized that the reopening was subject to the institution’s strict adherence to COVID-19 safety protocols and the decision of its governing council.

He urged the authorities of tertiary institutions to work with the Ekiti state COVID-19 Task Force for guidance on the appropriate measures to be put in place before reopening.
